New Patient

New patient referrals:

If your insurance plan requires a referral from your Primary Care Physician, it is your responsibility to obtain it prior to your appointment. If you do not have a valid referral on file, you may be financially responsible for the visit or may need to have your appointment rescheduled.

*Plans such as Harvard Pilgrim require you to see the provider listed on your referral or your visit will not be covered.

Your first appointment will include an evaluation and possible testing. In order to get accurate results, some medications need to be stopped prior to the visit. Download medication instructions.

MOBILE CHECK-IN

Check-in online before your appointment!

As a patient, you want your doctor’s appointment to be as quick and convenient as possible. Phreesia, in partnership with Allergy & Asthma Associates of Maine, is excited to offer you the ability to complete the check-in process prior to your appointment.

How Mobile Check-In Works

Prior to your appointment, you will receive a text message and/or email prompting you to check in.

Once you have opened your mobile check-in, you will be prompted to verify your identity by answering a few security questions.

After you begin your mobile check-in, you will be presented with a series of questions related to your health. You can also sign office policies and consents, if needed, and make a payment if a balance or copay is due.

Make sure you provide us with an up-to-date cell phone number and email address to streamline your arrival at the doctor’s office with Mobile Check-in.

Testing can be expensive. Financial counseling is available by contact the billing department. Your provider will only order what is appropriate for your care.

We are so happy you have chosen our team to take care of your medical needs.  We understand that there are so many questions when it comes to your first appointment, and we want to make sure we provide you with the best expectations for a successful visit.

How to prepare for your first visit to the Allergist

Are there any medications that could cause a problem at your first appointment?

Medications to Avoid Before Allergy Testing

Your first appointment will include an evaluation and possible testing. In order to get accurate results, some medications need to be stopped prior to the visit. Medication Instructions.

Please be aware, depending on your medical history, your provider may determine that allergy testing is not indicated, and thus the appointment may not be as long as initially expected.

Should I bring anything to my first visit?

  • It is helpful to keep a food and symptom journal
  • Photos of reactions
  • Full list of medications used or still in use
  • Relevant medical documents or testing results
  • Have all your questions prepared ahead of the appointment to ensure the provider touches on all your concerns.
  • Bring a book, tablet, or other form of entertainment to pass the time during the testing

Just a quick note: Our rooms can be quite chilly, so we recommend bringing a sweater or wrap to stay comfortable during your visit.

What type of clothing is appropriate for my visit to the Allergist?

  • Easy to remove and comfortable clothing
  • Consider short sleeves
  • Avoid dresses when possible.  They make it harder to cover from the waist down while still exposing the back for testing
  • For infants, consider an outfit with separate top and bottom instead of a onesie.
  • Avoid perfumes and lotions

How long is the first visit?

  • Your first visit will consist of a thorough consultation with the provider, where you will have the opportunity to connect with your provider and share your story.  The testing, if applicable, will happen the same day directly after your consultation with the provider.
  • Plan on being in the office for approximately 2 hours for this first appointment.

Referrals and Authorizations:

Some insurance plans require your primary care provider to obtain a referral authorization number from the insurance company for you to see us. A referral requirement is the result of your contract with your insurance company, so it is ultimately your responsibility to ensure that it has been done prior to your visit. If your insurance company denies payment because a referral has not been obtained, you will be responsible for the cost of the visit. You are responsible for any balances classified as ‘Patient Responsibility’ by your insurance company. Any dispute with claim processing is between you and your insurance company.
